NEW YORK!!

My niece is going without me...YES without ME!

A whole group of teenagers and their moms for a Show Choir Performance in APRIL.

So...I need some suggestions for a decent priced hotel in a somewhat safe and trendy area/neighbourhood!

THANKS!

  1. What?! I totally saw "NEW YORK" on your post and was hoping that meant I was finally going to get to meet you! Darn it!!

As for hotels, if your niece wants a relatively inexpensive, hip hotel close to great nightlife, she should take a look at The Jane (they have $99 rooms! So cheap for NYC!!). It's a bit of a hike from the subway, but it's in the Meatpacking District, near the Highline and lots of fabulous bars, clubs & restaurants.

If she's there for sightseeing, any of the usual big chains are totally fine, and she can stay anywhere from Soho to the 50s and be close to good things. I don't know what her budget is (and hotels here are very $$$), but she should look at The Hudson, too. It's fabulous, in a good location and has great bars inside that are seriously fun!

  2. Um, whoops. I just saw that she's a teenager!! How did I miss that?! Well, the hotel suggestions are still good -- but The Hudson is better because it's more centrally located.

  4. By west coast standards there is no cheap in New York. The hotel I stayed at in the fashion district was nice but you have to make sure and pay for the remodeled room. Herald Square right near the Empire State Building. Don't let the tired exterior scare you my remodeled room was wonderful. My friends had a non-remodeled one with not so nice reviews. No bed bug reports however.

Another colleague of mine highly recommends he Embassy Suites in Secaucus NJ. Apparently there is a bus that only takes 25 minutes to get right near Broadway. He paid less than 100 a night to stay there in October and had many more amenities than anything in Manhattan had.
